Requirements & prerequisites
Complete all pool training first
All pool training needs to be completed for this product. All divers are required to show instructor signatures from the pool training exercises and proof of E-Learning successful completion. Please email this information to dive@keylargoscubadiving.com ahead of time so we can make sure you are ready for the ocean dives.
Complete a diver medical questionnaire
All PADI Referral Check-out Diver participants must complete a diver medical questionnaire. Some medical histories may require physician approval before participating in the ocean dives. Please review this medical questionnaire before making your purchase. This is likely the same form you would have filled out before going into the pool. If your medical questionnaire required physician sign-off we can accept the same form so long as it is not older than 1 year and it is the same exact form that we use. Contact us with any questions. No refunds for a failed medical questionnaire.

Pool training more than 6 months ago If it has been more than 6 months since your last pool session a morning pool session will be required before going into the ocean. Morning pool sessions are available as an add-on.
Curriculum
4 ocean dives over 2 afternoon boat trips
Enjoy the warm tropical water of the Florida Keys while you complete your 4 ocean dives and earn your certification. All divers will get fitted for gear, sign waivers, and go over their dive plan. Your instructor will discuss the plan for each of the dives. You will have plenty of time to ask questions about your gear, skills, and the dives to be completed. Complete your 4 dives over 2 afternoon boat trips that include 2 dives each. Each dive is approx. 1 hour.
Dive sites
- Molasses Reef Some of the best reef dives in the USA.
- Pickles Reef A coral restoration project.
- Depth Approx. 18–35 ft, the average depth of most reef dives in Key Largo. These sites are known for their beautiful coral, sea fans, and all different types of tropical marine life.
Conditions
- Visibility Varies day to day and even hour by hour. There is not a better time of year or a better time of day regarding visibility. On average, water visibility will exceed 35 ft.
- Water temperature Ranges through the year: around 75°F or higher in early February, and around 88–90°F+ in mid-August.
